During the summer of 2021 our preaching team will be guiding us through Peter’s second epistle. Written just prior to his death, Peter’s letter urgently communicates precious truths and warnings he wanted to remind them of so that they would not forget after he was gone. Now, almost 2000 years after Peter’s death, we are still encouraged by this letter.
The book of 2nd Peter is a General Epistle. It was written to all believers. The author is Peter who wrote it about 63-64 A.D. Its purpose was to warn against the increasing number of false teachers attacking the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
On Sunday, July 4th Elder Adam Rebandt began the sermon series on 2nd Peter — by reminding us of our equal standing in Christ. This message (listen below) was from 2 Peter 1:1,2
“To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
On Sunday, July 18, Elder Greg Weigler taught us from 2 Peter 1:3-4. In these two powerful verses, Peter shows us that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”
