Considering visiting OHCC for the first time? We’re excited to meet you! Below are some common questions and answers to give you a sense of what to expect and to help you better enjoy your first visit with us.
What is a typical Sunday like?
On Sundays, we come together as the family of God for a time of Learning with our Sunday School at 9:45am, a time of Worship at 11am, and a time of Fellowship and refreshments nestled between at 10:30-11am. Many of us remain after the service and engage in further fellowship. We have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a community who desires to grow closer to God and mature in their relationship with him.
What is the worship service like?
Our focus in our worship service is on the triune God who relates to us as we seek to engage with him. We see worship as a two way relationship where we speak to God in Songs and Prayers and we listen to God by Hearing God’s Word read and proclaimed. The atmosphere is joyfully reverent knowing that we gather together to worship the living God, the creator and Lord of the universe, who rose from the dead on a Sunday morning to save his people from their sin and to give us hope and purpose in this uncertain world!
What kind of music is sung?
Our desire with music is to sing as a congregation in worship to God free from distractions. We sing a mixture of familiar hymns, psalms and songs both new and old — all rooted in scripture. Our accompaniment varies, but you won’t need any ear protection. There is usually a mix of piano and some other instruments with a focus on aiding the congregation to engage in the singing.
Please see our Music Ministry page for more information.
What should I wear?
Please feel free to wear what you are comfortable in. While we do not have an observed dress code, and outfits range from suits and dresses to jeans and t-shirts, we find that most people wear ‘business casual’ attire.
What will my kids do during the worship service?
We love having kids of all ages in the worship service and welcome them to stay, even if they make a few noises. We also have a Nursery for ages 0-3, a “Stepping Stones” class for ages 3-5, as well as overflow seating with live video feed in our fellowship hall. Many of our families with young kids find these accommodations helpful as they engage in worship.
Please see our Family page for more details on the resources available to aid our families in worship.
Is it ok to come in if I’m late?
Yes! We are happy for you to join us at any time during the service.
What if I can’t find a seat?
If you’re not sure where to sit, you can ask an usher and they would be happy to help you find a
spot. We also have overflow seating available in our fellowship hall.
Where can I find recent sermons?
The sermons are recorded and available online or via cd. Our sound team usually has a few disks ready after the service for you to grab from the welcome desk on your way out.
