Mercy Ministry

The deacons of OHCC lead the church in providing practical assistance to church members and neighbors in a variety of practical ways:

• Transportation assistance and help with auto repairs.
• Gas money for vehicles.
• Help with auto insurance and medical insurance.
• Food in the form of Kroger gift cards, food pantry items, fruit baskets, and baked goods from the bread ministry.
• Medical and dental care.
• Encouragement and financial aid for several members in between jobs, and others who were unemployed for many months this year.
• Tuition assistance for college students.
• Rent money and mortgage money.
• Financial counseling, mentoring, encouragement, and prayers.

Ministry Highlights for 2009

• The food pantry that was begun in November of 2008 was useful to many members and friends throughout 2009.
• We also started a Tuesday night “Bread Ministry.” Approximately $52,000 retail value in “day old” baked goods was distributed to families all over Wayne and Oakland counties during 2009. Approximately 25 to 30 families and other individuals were helped each week from the “Bread Ministry.”
